Chapel Downs is a place where community, care, and learning come together.
Our school is warm and welcoming, and students feel proud to be part of it. We celebrate diversity, show kindness, and work closely with whānau to support every child. Our staff build strong relationships and create a safe, positive environment where students feel confident and enjoy coming to school each day.
Learning at Chapel Downs is rich and varied, with a strong focus on developing the whole child. We follow the New Zealand Curriculum and encourage students to grow in knowledge, skills, and self-belief.
Alongside classroom learning, students take part in sports, cultural events, and co-curricular activities such as kapa haka, choir, Pasifika group, student leadership, and house competitions that foster pride and teamwork.
Our house system is an important part of school life, helping to build a strong sense of belonging, pride, and teamwork across the school.
We have four houses, each named after a native tree of Aotearoa:
Every student is placed into a house when they begin their journey at Chapel Downs Primary School, and siblings are placed in the same house to support a sense of whānau and connection.
Throughout the year, students earn house points in the classroom and during school events for showing positive behaviour, effort, and teamwork. The winning house is celebrated at our monthly assemblies, and house spirit is proudly on display. Each year, Year 6 student leaders are selected to be house captains, helping to lead events, support their peers, and encourage participation and pride across their house.
From friendly competitions to themed dress-up days and school-wide challenges, our house events bring students together and help strengthen the Chapel Downs community.
